During a recent appearance on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast, Carly Pearce opened up about her 2020 divorce from fellow country star Michael Ray, which occured less than a year after their wedding. Pearce described their whirlwind marriage as driven by passion rather than true love, while admitting that she knew on their wedding night that the relationship wasn’t what she wanted. “It wasn’t what I signed up for,” Pearce said. “It just wasn’t the marriage that I know I deserved.” Pearce chronicled that emotional turmoil in her 2021 EP, 29, and the companion full-length album, 29: Written in Stone. The singer revealed that the split was painful and complicated, involving infidelity hinted at in her hit song, “What He Didn’t Do,” but she expressed gratitude for the strength she gained from the experience. Pearce has moved forward with her music career, earning Grammy and CMA nominations for her Chris Stapleton collaboration, “We Don’t Fight Anymore,” which was featured on her 2024 album, Hummingbird.
