John Fogerty reacted with surprise to being pulled from an upcoming Australian country music festival.

Country Fest Queensland announced earlier this week that the Creedence Clearwater Revival co-founder had been dropped from its 2024 lineup due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

“I was ready to celebrate with you all for my one and only show this year in Australia when the Country Fest Queensland blindsided me yesterday by canceling my appearance,” Fogerty wrote on Instagram. “It was posted that I would not be appearing due to unforeseen circumstances. Well, I can tell you, my friends, I was not the reason for the ‘unforeseen circumstances.'”

The singer, songwriter and guitarist says he was “ready to come down there and excited to celebrate getting my songs back with all of you.”

Country Fest Queensland said in a subsequent statement that negotiations with Fogerty’s team “did not reach a final outcome” and ceased on Friday, February 23.

“The matter is now subject to court proceedings in the Supreme Court of Queensland, and is due to be heard in mid March,” the statement continued. “Until such time as the proceedings are dealt with, we do not intend to comment further.”

Fogerty also shared a video dedicated to his Australian fans in which he plays an acoustic rendition of CCR’s “Bad Moon Rising.”

“It’s a big disappointment what’s going on right now,” he says in the clip. “Sometimes things get complicated, beyond my grasp anyway.”
