In a new interview, Shania Twain has opened up about posing topless for the cover art for her new single “Waking Up Dreaming.”

“Waking Up Dreaming,” released in September, is a song from Twain’s upcoming record, Queen of Me. Twain’s sixth studio album is scheduled to be released on February 3.

“This is me expressing my truth. I’m comfortable in my own skin, and this is the way I am sharing that confidence,” the country-pop icon told People about the experience of posing nude for her latest single.

“I think the best fashion is confidence, and whatever you wear – if you’re wearing it with that, it’s fashionable,” added Twain, who turned 57 in August. “I am a woman in my late 50s, and I don’t need to hide behind the clothes. I can’t even tell you how good it felt to do nude shooting. I was just so unashamed of my new body, you know, as a woman that is well into my menopause. I’m not even emotional about it; I just feel OK about it. It’s really liberating.”

“From the very beginning – the very first video – I was ditching the bra,” she said, referring to posing bra-less for the music video for her 1993 single “What Made You Say That.”

The Canadian singer and songwriter, the best-selling female artist in country music having sold over 100 million records, is known as the “Queen of Country Pop.”
